As a proud member of the EOSC-hub initiative, rasdaman contributes flexible, scalable datacubes on the CREODIAS Sentinel archive as part of Task 7.7 EO Pillar led by the European Space Agency. On the side, rasdaman stands out in EOSC-hub as one of the few SMEs participating in a collaboration with large-scale public data centers.
The rasdaman datacube engine has pioneered actionable datacubes by establishing an array query language, meantime adopted as an ISO SQL extension standard, and a massively scalable distributed array database system. The technological lead of rasdaman is proven by multi-Petabyte operational services, open benchmarks, and a continuous series of international innovation awards. While in EOSC-hub Earth Observation datacubes are provided, rasdaman is domain-independent and has proven advantageous on human brain images, genetics, astrophysics, and other EOSC domains.
Over the past years, numerous policy makers from around the world have articulated a clear and consistent vision of global Open Science as a driver for enabling a new paradigm of transparent, data-driven science as well as accelerating innovation. In Europe, this vision is being realised through an ambitious programme under the heading of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The EOSC will offer 1.7 million European researchers and 70 million professionals in science, technology, the humanities and social sciences a virtual environment with open and seamless services for storage, management, analysis and re-use of research data, across borders and scientific disciplines by federating existing scientific data infrastructures, currently dispersed across disciplines and the EU Member States.
EU H2020 EOSC-hub is a lead contributor to the development of EOSC. EOSC-hub brings together multiple service providers to create the Hub: a single contact point for European researchers and innovators to discover, access, use and reuse a broad spectrum of resources for advanced data-driven research. For researchers, this will mean a broader access to services supporting their scientific discovery and collaboration across disciplinary and geographical boundaries. The project mobilises providers from the EGI Federation, EUDAT CDI, INDIGO-DataCloud and other major European research infrastructures to deliver a common catalogue of research data, services and software for research.
